Embodiment 1

[0165] Embodiment 1: the synthesis of butane tetracarboxylic acid two (2,4,6-trichlorophenol esters)

[0166] Weigh butane tetracarboxylic acid (BTCA) (20.84g, 0.089mol) and 2,4,6-trichlorophenol (35.80g, 0.18mol) in a round bottom flask (250cm 3 )middle. The flask was purged with nitrogen for 15 minutes, then distilled THF (150 cm 3 ). After stirring for 30 minutes under nitrogen, diisopropylcarbodiimide (29.0 cm 3 , 0.18mol). The reaction was allowed to proceed overnight with stirring under nitrogen. The mixture was filtered, washed with THF, and stirred for 1 hour to ensure complete precipitation. The crude product was obtained after removal of the solvent. The crude product was washed several times with dichloromethane, and the solvent in the filtrate was removed to obtain the desired product.

Embodiment 2

[0167] Embodiment 2: the synthesis of two (2,4,5-trichlorophenol esters) of succinate

[0168] Succinic acid (1.5g, 0.013mol) was dissolved in DMSO (50cm 3 )middle. 1,1'-Carbonyldiimidazole (5.0 g, 0.03 mol) was added, and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 30 minutes. Then 2,4,5-trichlorophenol (5.05 g, 0.026 mol) was added, and the mixture was stirred overnight at room temperature. The mixture was poured into water, filtered, washed with water and then with ether to give a white solid (2.03 g, 33%).

[0169] δ H (500MHz; CDCl 3 )3.07 (4H, s, CH 2 -CH 2 -C(O)-O-) and 7.55 & 7.29(4H, s, Ph).

Embodiment 3

[0170] Embodiment 3: the synthesis of succinic acid bis(N-hydroxysuccinimide ester)

[0171] Dissolve succinic acid (2.0 g, 0.017 mol) in THF (50 cm 3 )middle. 1,1'-Carbonyldiimidazole (5.49 g, 0.034 mol) was added, and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 30 minutes. N-Hydroxysuccinimide (3.89 g, 0.034 mol) was added and the mixture was stirred overnight at room temperature. The mixture was poured into water, filtered, washed with water, and washed with ether to give a white solid (2.0 g, 38%).

[0172] δ H (500MHz; CDCl 3 )2.59 (8H, s, CH 2 -CH 2 -CO-N-) and 2.89 (4H, s, CH 2 -CH 2 -C(O)-O-)

Abstract

A method of treating finished garments comprising cellulosic material so as to cause cross-linking, which comprises the step of treating fabrics with an effective amount of a blocked cross-linking agent for cellulose, said cross-linking agent being thermally activated. A composition for use in the said method which comprises an effective amount of a blocked cross-linking agent for cellulose, said cross-linking agent being thermally activated.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to laundry treatment compositions suitable for use in domestic laundry processes, in particular to compositions comprising components capable of crosslinking with cellulose. Background of the invention [0002] Cellulose is a beta-1,4 linked polysaccharide that is the main constituent of cotton, a well known and widely used material in textile production. Cellulose can be cross-linked by hydrogen bonds formed between the cellulose chains. [0003] Most of the clothing purchased around the world contains at least some cellulose fibers in the form of cotton or rayon, and these garments generally experience shrinkage, deformation and wrinkling problem. This phenomenon is thought to be caused by the opening and reformation of hydrogen bonds. [0004] So-called "durable press" treatments of fabrics are used to overcome these problems. One of the most common durable press methods is to fix the cellulose...
