Abstract

A method and apparatus for acquiring code groups in an asynchronous Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA) system is disclosed herein. The main synchronization channel search unit realizes the time slot timing synchronization of the main synchronization channel. Next, the 1-1 search unit and the 1-2 search unit of the secondary synchronization channel receive the secondary synchronization channel from the first and second antennas respectively, and start between some of the time slots of the received channel and the code group candidate and send information about candidates with a value exceeding a predetermined threshold to the determination unit, and the determination unit sends the received information about the candidates to the second search unit of the secondary synchronization channel.
