Embodiment 1 to 9
[0043] In Examples 1 to 9, the elution composition according to the present invention was used instead of the elution mixture used in Comparative Examples 1 to 7. Variations in elution rates were made and it was shown that it is possible to implement faster rates without loss of efficiency. Therefore, the regeneration time is greatly reduced. Table 2 summarizes the results for different compositions. Compositions are given in weight percent.

The invention provides a method for recovery of an anionic fluorinated surfactant from a basic anion exchange resin having quaternary ammonium groups, the method comprising eluting the anion exchange resin with a composition comprising an ammonium salt and a water miscible organic solvent. The method according to the invention may provide one or more of the following advantages. For example, the method can be designed to allow for recovery of substantially all of the fluorinated surfactant from a basic anion exchange resin having quaternary ammonium groups. Also, the liquid used for recovering the surfactant from the anion exchange resin is a simple liquid that can be readily and cost effectively manufactured. Further the process may be carried out in a convenient and easy manner. Furthermore, the method generally does not require large amounts of the eluting composition.
Description
[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This patent application claims priority from European Patent Application No. 05101921.4, filed March 11, 2005, which is hereby incorporated by reference in its entirety. technical field [0003] The present invention relates to a process for the recovery of anionic fluorinated surfactants from basic anion exchange resins having quaternary ammonium groups. Background technique [0004] Anionic fluorinated surfactants are widely used in the emulsion polymerization of fluorinated monomers to prepare fluoropolymers. The resulting fluoropolymer dispersion can be coagulated to thereby recover the fluoropolymer and sold as a solid; or the fluoropolymer dispersion can optionally be concentrated after upconcentration Sold as such. The fluorinated surfactants used are generally expensive. In addition, frequently used anionic fluorinated surfactants are generally perfluoroalkanoic acids and their salts. The presence of these ...
