Embodiment Construction
[0016] The present invention relates to detecting the presence of a person and controlling the sound level generated by a computer system in response to the detected presence of the person. The present invention generally includes embodiments that automatically control sound levels in a computer room, as well as embodiments that automatically control sound levels near a particular component or group of components of a computer system. If the sound level exceeds a predetermined set point, the computer system enters a noise reduction mode. In the noise reduction mode, airflow through the computer system chassis or through a particular electronic component or group of electronic components may be selectively reduced by, for example, reducing the rotational speed of a fan associated with one or more components. If it is determined that the reduced airflow poses a risk of overheating the component(s), the temperature of the component(s) can be monitored and processor load reduced. ...
