[0151] Example 1 - Moisture Exchange Container

[0152]The moisture exchange container of the present invention can comprise desired dimensions. An example embodiment of a moisture exchange vessel sized for processing up to about 5000 lbs (2268 kg) of finger-jointed short stock may comprise individual components as described herein, with external dimensions of about 90 3 / 4 inches long, 55 inches 3 / 4 inch high and 48 inches wide (2.3m long, 1.42m high, and 1.22m wide). For larger dryers and / or treatment tanks, a moisture exchange vessel 128 inches (2.305m) long, 55 3 / 4 inches (1.42m) high, and 48 inches (1.22m) wide may be used. Thus, in one example embodiment, the base and top pieces used to make the container skeleton are 90 inches (2.29m) long (i.e., pieces 3, 7, 11 and 14) or 48 inches (1.22m) long (i.e. , items 2, 4, 12 and 15)( Figure 3A ). Since they are placed inside the long support 7, the supports 6a and 6b are 42 inches long. Additionally, in one example embo...

[0155] Example 2 - Mixing Binders

[0156] Experiments were carried out to test various binder formulations. In the experiments described below, the binder formulations of the present invention are indicated as "mixed". The hybrid binder is an isocyanate (ISOSET CX-47) and polyvinyl acetate resin (PVA SP2723) mixed as described below.

[0157] To measure the effect of the various gluing types, specimens were glued and then (optionally) exposed to high pressure / high temperature chemical formulation treatments, followed by gluing testing. Use indoor (in-house) deflection test (Table 1) or ASTM D 5572 tensile test (ASTM D 5572: Standard Specification for Adhesives Used for Finger Joints in Nonstructural Lumber Product, Reapproved 1999) (Table 2, 3 and 4) to test stickiness combined strength. During the flex test procedure, pressure is applied directly to the glued finger-joint. In the pull test procedure, two pieces of wood finger-jointed at the center section are pulled ...

Abstract

Compositions and devices for the production of treated wood products are disclosed. A moisture exchange container for treating a plurality of wood pieces with a chemical formulation of interest is described. Also, an adhesive suitable for gluing wood pieces that have been treated, or that are going to be treated, with a chemical formulation of interest is described. Also disclosed are methods and systems using the devices and compositions of the present invention, and treated wood products.

Description

[0001] This application claims priority under 35 USC 119(e) to provisional application Serial No. 60 / 614,807, filed September 30, 2004, entitled "Methods and Products for Treating Wood and Wood Products Therefrom." The disclosure of Provisional Patent Application 60 / 614,807 is incorporated by reference in its entirety. technical field [0002] The present invention relates to treated wood products, and methods, apparatus, components and systems for treating wood. Background technique [0003] Architectural structures, such as windows or doors, are made of solid wood, which has a good appearance and solid texture. While natural wood is aesthetically pleasing, wood is susceptible to damage from prolonged exposure to damp or dry air, moisture, weather, bacterial attack, and / or insect bites. Consequently, frequent and often costly maintenance is required to prevent deterioration of finished wood exposed to the environment. [0004] In addition, wood is a precious natural resou...
