Abstract

A water-resistant composite paper, suitable for use as a loudspeaker component, is made from a composition including wood pulp, hydrophobic fibers, stiffening fibers that retain stiffness when wet, and fluorocarbon. In some examples, fibrillated acrylic fibers and glass fibers are used.

technical field [0001] The present disclosure relates to waterproof speaker cones. Background technique [0002] Loudspeakers typically include a diaphragm and a linear motor. When driven by an electrical signal, the linear motor actuates the diaphragm, causing vibrations in the air. The diaphragm may include a basin, surround and dust cover. Loudspeaker cones are usually made of paper. The enclosure and dust cover can also be made of paper. In some applications, speakers will be used in environments exposed to water, such as automobiles. Plain paper made from wood pulp does not work well as a separator when exposed to water. Paper absorbs water, which increases its mass and reduces its stiffness, both of which affect the sound the motor makes as it beats the diaphragm.
