Abstract

A solid state atomic clock may utilize quantum states capable of exhibiting a hyperfine resonance in order to generate a frequency standard. A device capable of coupling a free running oscillator to the hyperfine resonance frequency in order to generated output signal is described herein. In some aspect of the invention, the atomic clock may be fabricated on a silicon substrate and it may be integrated, in chip scale, as part of an electronic integrated circuit. The principal of operation, the method of making and system which utilized a solid state atomic clock are also disclosed.

Description

technical field [0001] Some embodiments relate generally to the field of frequency generation, and more particularly to frequency generation using atomic resonators. Background technique [0002] Today, high-end frequency standard references have relatively high cost, large size, high power loss, and so on. Devices such as, but not limited to, Global Positioning System (GPS) and / or portable GPS systems, cellular systems and / or portable cellular telephones and / or small-sized and low-cost cellular base stations, rapid telecommunications systems, and other high-speed communication links and / or Or systems, which use very high modulation frequencies, require a stable, precise and accurate frequency standard reference with small size, low cost and low power consumption for rapid deployment. More information on these issues can be found in the following reference: "GPS navigation Using Three Satellites and a Precise Clock" by M.A. Sturza, in Global Positioning System, vol. 2. Was...
