Abstract

The method involves turning off an internal combustion engine (1) such that a piston (2) of a cylinder (3) of the engine is resided at a crankshaft position. Fuel is injected into a suction tube (6) of the cylinder before standstill of the engine such that unburned fuel resides in the cylinder during the standstill of the engine. The piston of the cylinder is moved for swirling the unburned fuel before restarting the engine. The position is driven to another crankshaft position, and the swirled fuel is fired for restarting the engine. An independent claim is also included for a computing unit i.e. electronic control device, for controlling an internal combustion engine.
