Abstract

The invention discloses a variable geometry water turbine for ocean current energy power generation and a method thereof. The variable geometry water turbine for ocean current energy power generation comprises a blade, a hub and a transmission shaft, wherein the blade is connected with the hub through the transmission shaft and is capable of freely rotating around the transmission shaft, and the transmission shaft is connected with the hub through a flange. When current impacts a turbine, the blade on the working side of a water turbine can be gradually opened. When the root of the blade is perpendicular to the hub, the blade is completely opened, and simultaneously, under the impact of the current, the blade pushes the hub to rotate. When the hub rotates to the resistance side, under the impact of the current, the blade is gradually closed. Therefore, the current flows through the water turbine with the minimum resistance, and the problem that a part of the blade hinders rotation of the water turbine is resolved.
