The potential energy type crane comprises a metal framework, a cart travelling mechanism, a ladder platform, an electrical room, a cable drum, a hoisting mechanism, a driver cab, a wire rope, a pin shaft, a first pulley, a lifting tool, a second pulley and a third pulley. The cart travelling mechanism is located below the electrical room. The ladder platform, the electrical room and the cable drum are connected with the metal framework. The hoisting mechanism is located between the first pulley and the second pulley. The driver cab is located below the first pullet. One end of the wire rope is fixed with a main structure of the crane via the pin shaft, while the other end of the wire rope is connected with a counterweight system through the first pulley, the lifting tool, the second pulley and the third pulley. Innovatively, a set of counterweight system is embedded between the lifting tool and the hoisting and reeling system.
