Problems solved by technology

The liquid used is very expensive to prepare, which is a barrier to large-scale use
Likewise, since EDTA is not readily degradable, this process may result in the discharge of complex formers to water source receptors

Embodiment Construction

[0042] The leachate used in the process according to an embodiment of the present invention can be obtained by a method in which organic waste can be decomposed in an oxygen-free environment with hydrolyzing and fermenting microorganisms such as lactic acid bacteria. This lactic acid bacteria can be naturally present in the organic waste or it can be added voluntarily. When water is added, a solution with a low pH is obtained. The solution, or leachate, is an acidogenic leachate comprising volatile fatty acids VFA and fulvic acid. These VFAs and fulvic acids are macromolecules that bind to various pollutants by forming strong complexes. As noted above, the properties of this acidogenic leachate make it particularly suitable for leaching contaminated soil.

[0043] The basic requirement for leaching soil is that the contaminated soil is in contact with the acidogenic leachate for an appropriate period of time for the extraction of pollutants from the contaminated soil. The r...

Abstract

The invention relates to soil washing using acidogenic leachate. A plant and a method for soil washing using acidogenic leachate are described. Preferably the plant is arranged to be transported to the site where the contaminated soil is located so that the soil washing can be performed on site.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to the use of an acidogenic leachate according to claim 1 . It also relates to a method of soil leaching and an apparatus for soil leaching. Background technique [0002] Traditionally, arsenic, copper and chromium have been used as impregnating agents for wood. These are toxic and waste impregnated wood is considered hazardous waste. Other impregnants include creosote, which leaks polyaromatic PAHs into the environment. The manufacture, use or disposal of impregnated wood is a source of soil contamination and, in some cases, prolonged use will lead to widespread crisis. [0003] In Sweden alone, there are about 80,000 contaminated areas, and arsenic is one of the most prevalent problem elements in these areas. To ensure the use of these areas, contaminated soil needs to be removed and usually disposed of before landfilling. Subsequently, pure material must be excavated for remediation of contaminated sites, which res...
