Embodiment Construction

[0078] Exemplary embodiments of the present invention are described below. The following description provides specific details to provide a thorough understanding and enable description of these embodiments. It will be understood by those skilled in the art that the present invention may be practiced without these details. In other instances, well-known structures and functions have not been shown or described to avoid unnecessarily obscuring the description of the embodiments. Throughout the specification and claims, unless the context clearly requires otherwise, the word "comprise" and variations thereof are to be read in an inclusive sense, as opposed to an exclusive or exhaustive sense; that is, the words "comprises, but not limited to" to understand. Words using the singular or the plural also include the plural or singular respectively. Additionally, the words "in," "above," "below," and words of similar importance, when used in this application, shall refer to this a...

Abstract

There is provided a fodder growing system (10) comprising a building slab 11 and insulated walls and roof panels 16 to form an insulated housing. A plurality of vertically-spaced, thermally massive MgO composite platforms (41) is supported at each end by uprights (34) and stringers (37, 40). The platform (41) is inclined 4 degrees downward to a substantially unobstructed front edge. An irrigation system includes control means (51) for delivery of a selected, six-day irrigation program from a water supply (23, 26) to spray nozzles (45) supported over each of said platforms (41). An illumination system controlled by the control means (51) drives LED arrays (not shown) supported over each of said platforms (41). Temperature control means comprises a thermal collector (25) heating hot water supply (26) blended by a tempering valve with the cold water supply under the control of the control means (51) to control the temperature within the housing by controlling the temperature of the water supply.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to forage growing, and more particularly, to systems and methods for growing forage. Background technique [0002] Throughout the history of livestock farming, the challenge of providing nutritious animal feed during times of seasonal shortage has been met through many processes. In highly seasonal areas, pastures are resurfaced for the purpose of seasonal hay production. Forage crops can be planted, harvested and stored appropriately. These traditional European methods have not always been applicable to other environments that lack land, climate or livestock breeding conditions to achieve adequate feed reserves. [0003] In many parts of the world, land may be plentiful but growing conditions poor. Temperature and / or rainfall may be too extreme to reliably grow forage throughout the year. In these situations, herders need to buy feed from external sources, which is often more expensive than growing their own feed. Ac...
