Many pH sensors based on glass electrodes require protection of the active surface or membrane of the sensor from physical and environmental damage. This function is typically provided by a disposable sleeve or cup that is placed over the sensing end of the pH sensor. However, reusable pH sensors need to be cleaned and sterilized before being used in another bioreactor. Additionally, pH sensors need to be calibrated and stored in buffer solutions to ensure accurate measurements.
