Abstract

A turboexpander-generator unit (1) is described. The unit comprises a casing (3) with a gas inlet (5) and a gas outlet (7). The unit further comprises a turboexpander (9) having a turboexpander rotor (21) mounted on a shaft (13) supported for rotation in the casing (3), and an electric generator (11) arranged in the casing (3) and comprised of a generator stator (1 IS) and a generator rotor (11R) mounted on the shaft (13), for co-rotation with the turboexpander rotor (21). The unit also comprises a plurality of bearings (15, 17, 19) configured and arranged for rotatingly supporting the shaft (13) in the casing (3). A gas flow path from the gas inlet (5) to the gas outlet (7) is provide, which extends through the turboexpander (9) and the electric generator (11). Compressed working gas expands in the turboexpander and generates mechanical power for rotating the generator rotor. The expanded working gas from the turboexpander flow through the electric generator and removes heat therefrom. The bearings comprise gas- lubricated bearings, lubricated with the working gas.
