[0018] Prostate tumors are usually graded by histopathological examination using samples collected by transrectal ultrasound-guided biopsy. However, the ultrasound usually (at best) indicates the location of suspicious areas of the prostate, but cannot determine the tumor grade of these areas (or even whether they are cancerous). Therefore, there is no guarantee that the biopsy will sample the highest grade tumor present in the prostate.
