Abstract

A method and system for maintaining engine coolant levels. Methods and systems are provided for maintaining a desired engine coolant level and relative amount of ethylene glycol in the engine coolant by using water from an on-board vehicle system. In one example, a method includes supplying water to an engine coolant reservoir in response to an engine coolant level falling below a threshold. Also, the relative amount of glycol in the coolant may be maintained at the threshold amount by adding water to the coolant in response to the relative glycol increasing above the threshold.
