example 1

[0029] Example 1 is an apparatus comprising: a data collection system comprising: an illuminator, a detector, and a beam splitter operatively coupled to the detector; an actuation assembly coupled to the illuminator via a bracket, The actuation assembly includes an electric motor coupled to a linear actuator; and a visible target to facilitate alignment of the subject's eyes with the data collection system; wherein the illuminator illuminates interrogating radiation to target tissue, and the an actuation assembly moves the illuminator from a first position to a second position to scan the focal point of the interrogating radiation through a predetermined thickness of target tissue; and wherein the detector detects at least one value of at least one characteristic of the response radiation.

[0030] In Example 2, the subject matter of Example 1 optionally includes wherein the response radiation comprises backscattered light, Rayleigh light, fluorescence, or light produced by th...

example 23

[0051] Example 23 is a method comprising: facilitating self-alignment of a target tissue of a subject relative to an apparatus comprising: an illuminator, a detector, and a beam splitter operably coupled to the detector an actuation assembly coupled to the illuminator via a bracket, the actuation assembly including a motor coupled to a linear actuator; and facilitating interaction of the subject's eyes with the data collection system an accurate visible target; monitor the target tissue until the target tissue corresponds to a target location; illuminate the target tissue with the illuminator; move the illuminator from a first position to a second position via the actuating assembly, scanning interrogation light through a focal point of a predetermined thickness of target tissue; detecting at least one characteristic of responsive radiation received or reflected from said target tissue; and correlating at least one characteristic of said responsive radiation to determine condit...

Abstract

Implementations described herein include a device having a data collection system, an actuation assembly, and a visible target. The data collection system has an illuminator, a detector, and a beam splitter operably coupled to the detector. The actuation assembly is coupled to the illuminator via a holder and has a motor coupled to a linear actuator and a speed governor. The visible target facilitates alignment of the subject's eye with the data collection system. The illuminator illuminates the target tissue with interrogating radiation and the actuation assembly moves the illuminator from afirst position to a second position to scan a focal point of the interrogating radiation through a predefined thickness of the target tissue. The detector detects the at least one value of the at least one characteristic of responding radiation received from or reflected from the target tissue and uses such information to determine the onset and duration of a pathological condition.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims priority to US Provisional Application No. 62 / 390,323, filed March 26, 2016, the entire contents of which are incorporated herein by reference. technical field [0003] Embodiments described herein include devices and associated methods for non-invasively determining the onset and duration of pathophysiological conditions. Background technique [0004] Several blood-based tests exist to determine whether a subject has diabetes, but there is no portable and easy-to-operate device or method specifically designed for the non-invasive detection of diabetes in resource-constrained settings. Early symptoms. Contents of the invention [0005] The inventors have realized, inter alia, that the problems to be solved may include the ability to determine the presence of pathophysiological conditions by spectroscopic examination of the eye tissue of a subject without the use of expensive components such a...
