Problems solved by technology

This reduces the efficiency of the wick in lifting the vaporizable material into the vaporization chamber, thereby reducing the efficiency of the vaporizing device to vaporize the required amount of vaporizable material
Furthermore, the vacuum created in the reservoir can eventually result in not all of the vaporizable material being lifted into the vaporization chamber, thus wasting the vaporizable material

Embodiment Construction

[0274]Embodiments of the current subject matter include methods, apparatus, articles, and systems related to evaporator heaters employing non-linear positive temperature coefficient of resistivity (PTCR) heating elements (also referred to as "PTCR heaters"). It should be noted that "non-linear" refers to a PTCR heating element within the operating range of the PTCR heating element. While a portion of the operating range may exhibit a linear resistivity, the resistivity changes significantly under transition temperature conditions, where the rate of change of the resistivity becomes orders of magnitude larger. In this way the PTCR heating element can be temperature self limiting and given the range of applied voltage is known, the sharp increase in resistance limits the current so the PTCR heating element will not heat beyond a specific operating temperature. By employing PTCR heating elements, some aspects of the current subject matter may enable evaporator devices with inhere...

Abstract

An apparatus includes a housing including a power source; a reservoir including an inlet, an outlet, and configured to contain vaporizable material and couple to the housing; and a PTCR heating element configured to electrically couple to the power source and heat the vaporizable material to form an aerosol. The PTCR heating element includes an electrical resistivity that varies based on temperature. The electrical resistivity includes an electrical resistivity transition zone including an increase in electrical resistivity over a temperature range such that, when the PTCR heating element is heated to a first temperature within the transition zone, current flow from the power source is reduced to a level that limits further temperature increases of the PTCR heating element. Related apparatus, systems, techniques, and articles are also described.
