Abstract

A first component of the gas turbine engine (2), such as the hub (10), is heated from a second component, such as the shaft (12), by induction heating using a flexible heating sheath (40) wrapped around the outer circumferential surface (18) of the hub. Parts are assembled or disassembled. The jacket (40) includes a conductive flexible cable (42) having a plurality of rings (44). The jacket is selectively opened and closed with a plurality of electrical connectors (54) coupled to each respective ring of the cable. The power supply (64) passes current through the corresponding cable loops, which heats the hub. Induction heating is applied to mating parts in the engine to create a sufficient temperature differential that allows assembly or disassembly of the hub and shaft. A controller (30) regulates the power applied to the hub and shaft and monitors their temperature with temperature sensors (15, 16).
