Embodiment Construction

[0025] The following description relates to methods for making an energy receiving device such as a fuel tank or an on-board energy storage device ready to receive an energy supply (e.g. Systems and methods for augmentation of liquid fuel or charge). More specifically, as discussed herein, the learned information stored at the controller and / or the on-board navigation system may be via, for example, vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and / or vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) communications, One or more of your driving routine, etc. to determine proximity to an energy refill station. When such approach is detected, the vehicle controller may send an alert to the vehicle operator requesting confirmation that the vehicle operator intends to stop at the particular detected energy charging station. If the vehicle operator confirms that they intend to stop at that particular energy supplement station, one or more actions may be commanded via the controller to prepare the vehicle to receive an i...

Abstract

The invention provides systems and methods for increasing vehicle energy supply. Methods and systems are provided for preparing an energy receiving apparatus of a vehicle for receiving an increase ina level of energy storage prior to a vehicle reaching an energy replenishment station for receiving the increase. In one example, a method comprises via a controller, requesting a confirmation as to whether a vehicle operator intends to stop at a particular energy replenishment station, and when confirmation is received, commanding one or more actions to prepare the energy receiving apparatus foraccepting the energy level increase. In this way, a time-frame for accepting the energy level increase may be reduced as compared to situations where the one or more actions are not undertaken.

Description

technical field [0001] The present description generally relates to methods and systems for controlling the manner in which energy supply for propulsion of a vehicle is increased. Background technique [0002] Regardless of the energy source used to propel the vehicle, periodic stops to increase the supply of energy are routine. For example, in a vehicle propelled at least in part by an engine powered by liquid fuel (eg, gasoline, diesel), the vehicle may frequently be driven to a fuel filling station to refill the fuel tank with liquid fuel. As another example, for hybrid electric vehicles (e.g., plug-in hybrid electric vehicles) and battery electric vehicles (BEVs) that may be propelled at least in part via electrical energy, such vehicles may be periodically connected to an external power source (e.g., charging station) in order to increase the state of charge (SOC) of an on-board energy storage device (eg, battery). [0003] While such procedures are essential to vehic...
