Abstract

The invention relates to a respirator which comprises a breathing tube connecting piece used for being connected with a breathing tube; an actuator pneumatically connected to the breathing tube connection via which air is delivered to the patient; and a respiration sensor connecting piece which is used for providing respiration sensor signals for the respiration sensor, and a controller that calculates the inhaling volume according to the breathing signal and calculates the inhaling volume and the exhaling volume according to the lung volume signal of each breathing. The controller is furtherconfigured to determine when the exhaled volume exceeds an adjustable value of the associated inhalation volume, increasing the pressure at the end of the exhalation. And when the oxygen saturation isreduced to be lower than the lower limit, the pressure at the end of expiration is increased. Whether the oxygen saturation is reduced to be lower than the lower limit or not is determined, and if yes, the standby ventilation is started at a preset frequency. And when the oxygen saturation exceeds the lower limit again, the standby ventilation frequency is reduced. In another embodiment, stand-byventilation is terminated when the oxygen saturation exceeds an average limit. The invention also relates to a corresponding control method.
