Problems solved by technology

While such formulations are often effective, they can be costly and their performance properties may be improved
For example, tackifiers, which can comprise up to 65% of the adhesive composition, can be expensive and difficult to obtain

[0074] Laminate Preparation

[0075] Two specific substrates are attached together via a specific slot coating process using a hot melt adhesive composition to form a laminate. The first substrate "nonwoven" used to form the laminate was a fabric having a point bonded pattern (diamond, 0.87mm 215 gsm polypropylene spunbond (SSS) with a point bond pattern covering 18.6% of the bonded area and having 21.5 points per square centimeter. The average fiber diameter was 17 microns. The nonwoven was supplied in roll form and had a width of 212mm. The second substrate "film" used to form the laminate was a microporous polyethylene film having a basis weight of 16 gsm. The average print coverage was 16.7%. Exemplary of suitable membranes are MICROPRO microporous membranes, and membranes designated BR137P and BR137U (available from Clopay (Clopay Plastics Corporation, Mason, OH, USA)), or equivalents. The film is supplied in roll form and has a width of 206 mm.

Abstract

Described herein is an adhesive composition including at least 90 wt. % of a copolymer including from about 30 wt. % to about 70 wt. % of propene monomer units and from about 30 wt. % to about 70 wt.% of 1-butene monomer units. The adhesive composition can have a viscosity of from about 2,000 mPa*s to about 11,500 mPa*s at 150 DEG C. The adhesive composition can have an Enthalpy of Fusion of lessthan 17 J / g. The adhesive composition can have a Tensile Strength at Yield of from about 0.5 MPa to about 1.5 MPa. The copolymer can have a Static Peel Time of at least 220 seconds.

Description

technical field [0001] Disclosed herein is an adhesive composition for use in absorbent and textile articles. Background technique [0002] An adhesive composition, such as a hot melt adhesive composition, is an adhesive that is applied in molten form to the parts to be bonded and then sets and solidifies when cooled. Olefin-based hot melt adhesives require good bonding characteristics so that the adhesive can be securely bonded to the substrate, but such bonding characteristics can make the adhesive difficult to process during manufacturing. Equipment used to process adhesives and form bonded articles may be damaged or require frequent maintenance due to cured adhesive residues that accumulate on equipment components during the production and application of the adhesives. These residues can be damaging on rollers, rotating components such as shafts or mandrels, and in components intended to form hot melt adhesives such as extrusion dies, pressure rolls or lamination tools....
