[0041] The present invention relates to high voltage (HV) equipment for high power applications. The HV device may be a high voltage direct current (HVDC) device operating at HV such as 400 kV and above. Equipment operating at 800kV and above (for example, at 1100kV and above) may be more advantageous. The device may also be enclosed in an enclosure having a potential different from the voltage at which the device operates. For example, the enclosure can be grounded, while the device can operate at +1100kV, -1100kV, or some high voltage in between. The device may be, for example, a converter that converts between alternating current (AC) and direct current (DC). The device may alternatively be a power reactor, capacitor bank, disconnector, surge arrester, busbar interconnection, transformer, wall bushing or insulator terminal.
