Abstract

The glass syringe barrel has an at least partially conical upper portion and has a longitudinal axis. The glass syringe barrel includes a top end through which liquid can be jetted and a bottom end into which the plunger stopper can be pushed. Also included is (1) a tapered region having a first end and a second end, the first end corresponding to the top end of the glass syringe barrel, the tapered region having a length and an outer diameter at the second end; (2) a shoulder region having a first end and a second end, the first end being adjacent to the second end of the tapered region, theouter contour of the shoulder region comprising a concave and substantially arcuate region starting below the second end of the tapered region, the outer radius of which is r1, and a convex and substantially arcuate region starting above the second end of the shoulder region, the outer radius of which is r2; (3) a body region having a first end and a second end, the first end being adjacent to thesecond end of the shoulder region, the second end corresponding to the bottom end of the glass syringe barrel, the body region having an outer diameter and a glass thickness; the outer contour of theglass syringe barrel in the shoulder region is defined by a certain minimum of radius of curvature.
