Embodiment Construction

[0016] As an initial matter, in order to clearly describe the current technology, it will be necessary to choose certain terms when referring to and describing relevant machine components within an industrial machine. To the extent possible, common industry terminology will be used and adopted in a manner consistent with the term's accepted meaning. Unless otherwise indicated, such terms should be given the broadest interpretation consistent with the context of the present application and the scope of the appended claims. Those of ordinary skill in the art will appreciate that several different or overlapping terms may often be used to refer to a particular component. An object that may be described herein as a single part may comprise multiple components and be referred to in another context as consisting of multiple components. Alternatively, an object that may be described herein as comprising multiple components may be referred to elsewhere as a single part.

Abstract

The invention relates to an exhaust plume control structure and a power generating plant including the same. An exhaust plume control structure (210) includes a mounting member (220) configured to mount to an exhaust flow source (212). At least one divider member (240) operatively couples to the mounting member (220) and is positioned in fluid communication with the exhaust flow source (212). A diverter member (260) operatively couples to the divider member(s) (240) to radially direct an initial exhaust flow (92) from the exhaust plume towards the divider member(s) (240). Each divider member (240) separates the initial exhaust flow (92) into a plurality of exhaust flows (242, 282). A number of peripherally spaced, radially extending vanes (280, 282) may also separate the exhaust flows (242, 282) into additional exhaust flows (242, 282). Each of the additional exhaust flows (242, 282) has a slower velocity than the initial exhaust flow (92). The structure (110) reduces exhaust flow velocity and may provide back pressure to the initial exhaust flow (92). A power generating plant (94) including the structure (110) is also disclosed.

Description

Background technique [0001] The present disclosure relates generally to industrial machine exhaust plume control and, more particularly, to structures for controlling exhaust plumes in, for example, power generation plants. [0002] Various industrial machines produce exhaust gases that are distributed into the atmosphere. For example, ground-based power generation systems produce exhaust gases that are directed into the atmosphere through flues (ie, chimneys) that direct and cool the exhaust gases before allowing them to escape into the environment. Certain agencies may issue environmental or safety laws and / or regulations that present operational limitations with respect to the system's exhaust plume. For example, where the power generation system is located near an airport, government laws or regulations may limit exhaust flue plume velocities at lower altitudes for safety purposes. For example, the Australian Residential Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) requires that the...
