Abstract

A power supply unit with an engine-driven generator capable of high-efficiency operation even in a light-load area. The generator (1) is driven by the engine. The output of the generator (1) is converted into alternating current of a predetermined frequency through the rectification circuit (2) and the power conversion unit (4) (DC voltage regulator (4-1) and inverter (4-2)), and output to load side. A bidirectional DC-DC converter (5) supplies electric power from a battery (6) to an input side of a power conversion unit (4). When the load current is less than or equal to a predetermined value, the output generated by the battery based on the battery (6) is used to supply power to the load instead of the output generated by the generator based on the generator (1). When the power supply capacity of the battery (6) drops, the output generated by the generator is used to supply power to the load and charge the battery (6) at the same time.
