Relating to the technical field of organic materials, the invention provides a fluorene-based copolymer containing thiophene and thiophene pyrroledione units, as shown in formula (I). Specifically, R1, R2 and R3 are alkyl groups selected from C1-C20; R4, R5, R6, R7, R8 and R9 are alkyl groups selected from H or C1-C20; x+y=1, and x and y are both unequal to zero; m is an integer from 1-5; n is aninteger from 1-100. The invention also provides a preparation method of the fluorene-based copolymer containing thiophene and thiophene pyrroledione units, as well as application of the copolymer. Inthe copolymer of the invention, the fluorene unit, the thiophene unit and the thiophene pyrroledione unit are combined together organically so as to form a strong donor-acceptor structure, thus benefiting for improving the stability of the copolymer material, reducing the band gap of the material, enlarging the absorption scope of sunlight, and improving the photoelectric conversion efficiency.
