Basic copper nitrate reacts with 5-aminotetrazole for about 5-10 minutes to form a water-insoluble green precipitate. The precipitate was collected and washed with copious amounts of water to remove the free 5-aminotetrazole present. The washed precipitate was dried at 80°C for about 2 hours, and subjected to chemical analysis and thermal analysis. The experimental yield of the dry precipitate was 3.81 g. Assuming substitution of two hydroxyl groups, the theoretical yield is 4.91 g. The results of the chemical analysis are shown in Table 1 below.
