Abstract

The present invention provides compositions and methods for extending the storage life of fresh products. The method includes coating the outer surface of the product with a coating composition comprising an aqueous solution of the following components: about -3% by weight of chitosan or modified chitosan, about 0.1% by weight of an organic acid, about 0.02-0.1% by weight of surfactants and optional plant growth regulators, antibacterial agents, plasticizers and defoaming agents.
