Abstract

There are various mobile communication standards such as GSM, EDGE, and W-CDMA. For a GSM or EDGE system, a receiver (300) must be configured to work with an IF signal with a center frequency and bandwidth of 200 KHz. For WCDMA system, the same receiver (300) must be configured to work with an IF signal with a center frequency of 600KHz to 1000KHz and band width of 2000KHz. Accordingly, a configurable frequency IF filter with the capability to operate with multiple standards is provided.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a reconfigurable / programmable intermediate frequency (IF) filter. Background technique [0002] Many radio frequency (RF) receivers today are superheterodyne receivers. The RF receiver 100 shown in FIG. 1 uses heterodyne principles to down convert and demodulate data from an RF signal. Typically, data will be transmitted using high frequency signals due to the inherent relationship between RF wavelength and antenna size. This high frequency signal used to piggy back lower frequency information signals is called a carrier signal. [0003] In a heterodyne system, the received signal is mixed with another locally generated signal to remove the carrier signal from the transmitted RF signal. This mixing process results in multiple signals in various frequency bands. The frequency band of interest is the intermediate frequency (IF) of the system, which includes the data signal in modulated form. As shown in FIG. 1 , the ...
