[0039] In a specific embodiment of the method for preparing dry collagen powder of the present invention, before step a), the collagen raw material may be pre-treated to achieve denaturation or partial denaturation of collagen. Thus, the collagen material is washed and denatured or partially denatured by conventional heating or, for example, by microwave heating the wash water above the denaturing temperature of the collagen for a period of typically 10 to 120 minutes before further processing transsexual. The collagen material obtained is then further minced, dried until the cylindrical particles are brittle and ground according to the method described above. For the method of preparation of the dry collagen powder of the present invention, in order to achieve the appropriate degree of friability described above in connection with step b), it is important that the collagen raw material is denatured or partially denatured. This denaturation can take place before step a) is ca...
Embodiment 1
[0096] Example 1: Preparation of dry collagen powder
[0097] 10 kg of lime cowhide slivers were soaked in 30 liters of water in a tanning drum at room temperature. The material was fully saturated within 24 hours. Subsequently, the soaking water was drained, and the rehydrated collagen material was cut into approximately 10 mm diameter pieces in the first shredding step. To achieve this level of pre-comminution, the rehydrated collagen stock was processed in a cutter for 1 minute. The pre-minced collagen raw material discharged from the cutter was transferred to a sieve machine provided with a perforated plate of 2 mm diameter holes. The resulting shredded material was a worm-like filament with a diameter of approximately 2 mm in cross-section.
[0098] Subsequently, the obtained cylindrical granules were stacked in 3 cm layers on a tray and placed in a hearth furnace at 80°C. After 16 hours, the entire cross-section of the piled particles was dry with a residual moistur...
Embodiment 2
[0100] Example 2: Preparation of granular pellets starting from fine dry collagen powder and water
[0101] 700 g of dry collagen powder obtained according to Example 1 (with a residual water content of 7 wt-%) and 300 g of water were added to a container and mixed together by hand at once. Subsequently, the resulting mixture was transferred to a fast laboratory mixer (MSHK 25, Plasttechnik Company, Greiz). At the bottom of the fast laboratory mixer, the knife rotates at 3000 rpm and produces efficient mixing of the components. After 15 seconds, the vessel was emptied through the discharge opening at the bottom of the mixer. The result of the mixing process is a granular mass, which can be further processed according to step (ii) in the process for the preparation of the homogeneous thermoplastic composition of the present invention.
