Benefits of technology

This new type of reactor used for treating contaminated water effectively can remove harmful substances from it while also promoting its growth by creating an impervious barrier that keeps other materials like oils or fertilizers inside them.

Problems solved by technology

The technical problem addressed by this patented research relates to finding ways to efficiently treat soil water containing various harmful substances such as chromes, lead compounds, pesticides, petrochemistry chemicals, and other environmental hazards caused by industrial activities involving landfill disposal processes. Current methods involve removing them from underground environments through expensive physical techniques like excavating, boring holes, drilling wells, pumping up liquids into dirt lined areas, which causes damage to surrounding ecosystems due to their negative impact on human health. To address this issue, there exists a new method called Periost Technologies® where certain porous reactor media made of specific materials were introduced during construction workings. These specialized media could effectively filter out unwanted elements while maintaining long lifetimes without requiring frequent replacements compared to traditional technics.

Embodiment 1

[0011] The permeable reaction wall medium material used in this embodiment is composed of 20% fired aggregate (the weight ratio of fly ash, clay, zeolite powder and gypsum in the fired aggregate is 2:2:1:1), 25% CaO 2 , 7% MgO 2 , 10% FeO and 38% peat. The PRB composed of this medium material treats the groundwater polluted by benzene, ethylbenzene, xylene and C6-C36 alkanes. The research is carried out in the three-dimensional simulation device of groundwater pollution in the laboratory. After 6 months of test operation, the removal rate of single-ring aromatics was 75-99%, and the removal rates of C6-C9, C10-C14, C15-C28 and C29-C36 reached 91.2%, 87.6%, 79.5% and 74% respectively , The total average removal rate of petroleum hydrocarbons is 87%.

Embodiment 2

[0013] Using the column test, it was established that 25% of the fired aggregate (the weight ratio of fly ash, clay, zeolite powder and gypsum in the fired aggregate is 2:1:3:2), 20% CaO 2 , 10% MgO 2 , 15% FeO and 30% peat PRB to remediate the groundwater polluted by Cr and TCE, the results show that the Cr in the groundwater 6+ From 10mg / L to 0.01mg / L, TCE from 6mg / L to 0.001mg / L.

[0014] The present invention has the following advantages:

[0015] 1) It can simultaneously remediate groundwater polluted by heavy metals and organic matter.

[0016] 2) The treatment effect is much better than the active medium composed of a single material.

[0017] 3) The service life is long, and the replacement cycle of dielectric materials is 2-5 times that of traditional materials.

[0018] 4) The replaced material is non-toxic and harmless, and does not need to be treated as hazardous waste.

Abstract

The invention relates to a permeable reactive barrier dielectric material used for remedying underground water pollution, which comprises the following components in percentage by weight: 20 to 30 percent of sintering aggregate, 15 to 25 percent of CaO2, 5 to 10 percent of MgO2, 10 to 15 percent of FeO and the balance of peat, wherein the aggregate is prepared from 1 to 3 of coal ash, 1 to 3 of clay, 1 to 3 of zeolite and 1 to 3 of gypsum in proportion by weight by preheating and high-temperature sintering. In the invention, after the compound material is filled in a permeable reactive barrier, underground water which is suffered from multiple pollution of heavy metal, organic matter and the like can be remedied at the same time; the treatment effect of the material is greatly superior to that of an active medium made of a single material. Meanwhile, the material has long service life, and replaced materials are nontoxic and innocuous. The invention is beneficial to the popularization and the application of a novel underground water pollution remediation technology-a permeable reactive barrier technology.
