Abstract

The invention discloses a method for switching a terminal and a corresponding communication network. The communication network comprises a wireless side network element, an access gateway which is connected between the wireless network element and a packet data network, a mobility management node and an identity position register. In the process of switching the terminal, when a target access gateway different from the original access gateway is determined, the target access gateway allocates the identifier of a new position for the terminal and saves the mapping information of the identifier of the identity of the terminal and the identifier of the new position; a target mobility management node or the target access gateway initiates registration and updates the identifier of the position of the terminal in the identity position register to which the terminal belongs; and the terminal is switched from the original wireless side network element to a target wireless side network element, and is connected to the packet data network by the target wireless side network element and the target access gateway, so that data messages is encapsulated and forwarded between the terminal and a communication opposite end.
