Abstract

The present invention relates to a liquid crystal display device. A liquid crystal display device is provided, which includes: a first substrate and a second substrate facing each other; a pixel electrode and a common electrode located on the first substrate, which generate an electric field substantially parallel to the first substrate; provided a backlight unit under the first substrate that provides light to the first substrate; and a liquid crystal layer that includes liquid crystal molecules and is disposed between the first substrate and the second substrate, wherein the liquid crystal molecules do not generate the electric field. When the electric field is generated, it is twisted in a helical structure with an axis perpendicular to the first substrate, and when the electric field is generated, it is relaxed along the electric field while maintaining the axis.
