Problems solved by technology

Furthermore, precipitated friction reducing polymers can lead to higher frictional pressures, which lead to increased fracturing costs
Additionally, by not being properly adsorbed to the rock surface, precipitated surfactants can reduce the capillary pressure of the fluid, making hydrocarbon recovery more difficult

Embodiment

[0044] The interaction between Arquad HTL 8 (cationic surfactant), FR-46 (friction reducer) and Tween 80 (compatibilizer) was tested. The results show that solutions of cationic surfactants can be made compatible with friction reducers by adding compatibilizers and salts. The results are shown in Table 1.

[0045]

[0046] Friction reduction tests were performed using the above polymer solutions containing friction reducers, surfactants and compatibilizers. The equipment used to measure friction reduction (FR) consisted of tanks (~161) from which a low shear screw pump (Moyno 2L6) circulated the fluid around a total length of tubing of approximately 10 m. The positive displacement pump produces lower shear than the test fluid in the tube. The diameter of the tube is 1.25 cm. The pressure drop over the 2.4 m long pipe was measured by a Honeywell pressure transducer. The polymer solution was injected into the tubing from a syringe located 15 cm from the tank inlet.

Abstract

Improved treatment fluids and methods for use in subterranean operations including the treatment of low permeability shale formations. In one embodiment the methods comprise: providing a treatment fluid comprising an aqueous base fluid and a controlled wetting system that comprises: a water soluble polymer having a charge, a surfactant having an opposite charge, and a compatibilizer; and introducing the treatment fluid into a subterranean formation.

Description

Background of the invention [0001] The present invention relates to fluids useful in subterranean operations, and more particularly to treatment fluids comprising surfactants and water soluble polymers, and methods of using such treatment fluids to treat low permeability shale formations. [0002] Aqueous treatment fluids can be used in a variety of subsurface treatments. Such treatments include, but are not limited to, stimulation operations and well completion operations. As used herein, the term "processing" or "processing" refers to any subterranean operation associated with a desired function and / or using a fluid for a desired purpose. The terms "processing" or "processing" do not imply any specific activity of the fluid. [0003] An example of a subterranean treatment utilizing an aqueous treatment fluid is hydraulic fracturing. Fractures may be formed by introducing fracturing fluid into a rock formation at a rate sufficient to exert sufficient pressure on the format...
