Active pharmaceutical ingredients of the traditional Chinese medicine for decreasing the blood sugar comprises extracts and 10-12 parts by weight of buck wheat flour, wherein the extracts are extracted by water decocting or alcohol refluxing a mixture of 45-55 parts by weight of astragalus, 28-32 parts by weight of polygonatum, 28-32 parts by weight of polygonatum odoratum, 38-42 parts by weight of cortex lycii radicis, 18-22 parts by weight of rhizoma dioscoreae and 18-22 parts by weight of rhizoma alismatis. The preparation method comprises the steps of mixing astragalus, polygonatum, polygonatum odoratum, cortex lycii radicis, rhizoma dioscoreae and rhizoma alismatis, adding water into the mixture and decocting, concentrating a drug solution to obtain an extract, or extracting by alcohol reflux, concentrating a drug solution to obtain an extract; and mixing the extract obtained from one of the above method and buck wheat flour to obtain the traditional Chinese medicine for decreasing the blood sugar. The traditional Chinese medicine for decreasing the blood sugar has the beneficial effects of providing novel traditional Chinese medicine species effective in treatment for treating hyperglycemia diseases.
