An automatic vehicle identification system based on ZigBee is disclosed. The system uses a ZigBee wireless communication technology so as to automatically identify vehicle information without stopping the vehicle. The system comprises a vehicle-mounted sub-node, a data acquisition unit, a ZigBee gateway, a handheld observer and a control center, wherein the vehicle-mounted sub-node is installed in the vehicle; a sensor component is used to collect the information in the vehicle; the information is wirelessly transmitted to acquisition equipment through a ZigBee transceiver after being simply arranged in a MCU; the data acquisition unit is divided into an activation module and an acquisition module; the acquisition equipment is responsible for receiving the information transmitted by the vehicle-mounted sub-node and delivering the information to the ZigBee gateway so as to carry out processing; the information after being processed by the gateway is transmitted to the handheld observer of a traffic police; the control center arranges the collected data and the inherent information of the sub-node so as to obtain the detailed data of the vehicle which runs on a road section and then updates the stored information in a database; according to a number of the acquisition equipment of the vehicle running road section, a running route of the vehicle in a period of time can be automatically positioned and monitored.
