Embodiment Construction

[0033] figure 1 is a schematic diagram of a rotor blade 2 having a deicing device 1 according to an embodiment of the present invention. The rotor blade 2 has a rounded leading edge 20 and a flat, relatively thin trailing edge 21 . The schematic shows conductive pads 10 embedded in the blade and covered by an outer resin "skin". The entire de-icing device is embedded in such a way that none of its components are exposed to these elements. The schematic also shows a current source 13 represented by a battery, the two electrodes of which are connected to opposite ends of the pad 10 by means of leads 130, 131 extending within the body of the blade 2 as shown in dashed lines. The de-icing device 1 is embedded in the blade 2 so that the pad 10 is placed along the leading edge 20 .

Abstract

The invention describes a deicing device (1) for a rotor blade (2) of a wind turbine, the deicing device (1) comprising: a conductive pad (10); a conductive strip (11), the conductive strip (11) for distributing current along a first edge of the pad (10); and a current source connector (12) for connecting the strap (11) to a current source (13) ); wherein at least the conductive pad (10) is embedded in the main body of the rotor blade (2). The invention also describes a wind turbine (3) comprising: a number of rotor blades (2) comprising such a deicing device (1); and means for connecting to said rotor blades (2) The current source (13) of the de-icing device (1). The invention also describes a method of incorporating a de-icing device (1) into a wind turbine rotor blade (2).

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention describes a deicing device for a wind turbine rotor blade, a wind turbine, and a method of incorporating a deicing device into a wind turbine rotor blade. Background technique [0002] During cold conditions, ice can accumulate on the rotor blades of wind turbines. Such ice deposits or layers of ice can have a detrimental effect on the performance of the wind turbine because they alter the aerodynamic properties of the blades. The accumulated weight of ice on the rotor blades can also cause undesired loading of the wind turbine. Therefore, some work has been done to avoid the accumulation of ice, or to melt the ice deposits that have formed on the rotor blades. In one method, a pad of conductive fibers (eg, carbon fibers) is applied to a prefabricated and polished rotor blade. When the electrodes of the current source are connected to opposite ends of the pad, the current flowing through the pad heats the fibers and prevents ic...
