Embodiment Construction

[0020] According to an embodiment of the present invention, Figure 1A , 1B and figure 2 The general layout of the radiation probe is shown. The probe 10 includes a handle 12, a printed circuit assembly 14, a connector 16, a union 17, a probe interface 18, a plurality of crystal plates 20, a pair of crystal interconnectors 22, a pair of insulators 24, and a housing 26 , connector 28, protective cover 30 and cap 32.

[0021] Detector crystal plate 20 is generally cylindrical with opposite, generally flat ends. Crystal plate 20 is preferably made of cadmium-zinc-tellurium (CZT), but any other semiconductor material suitable for detecting photon radiation may be used.

[0022] image 3 Details of crystal interconnector 22 are shown. Crystal interconnector 22 includes three annular, generally planar, spaced-apart elements or "rings" 34a, 34b, and 34c that are generally parallel to each other. The first spacer 36a extends generally orthogonally between the rings 34a, 34b, th...

Abstract

The invention discloses a detection probe for detecting radiation, comprising a long handle possessing a first end and a second end, and an assembling member which is positioned on one end of the handle for detecting the photon emission; the assembling member comprises at least three cadmium-zin-tellurium crystal wafers; the crystal wafers are laminated in parallel and are electrically connected to the parallel circuits; the detection probe also comprises a protective housing which is partially enclosed in the crystal wafer; thickness provided by the laminated array is generally equivalent to the single block photon absorption of the sum of the thickness of the wafers, wherein the laminated array uses the voltage needed by the single block wafer to perform electric bias; the laminated array performs the electric bias by using the voltage corresponding to the thickness rate; and the thickness rate is the thickness ratio as described in the single crystal with crystal piece described roughly equivalent to the sum of the thickness of the ratio of the thickness of single crystal.

Description

[0001] This application is a divisional application of the patent application No. 200980159656.5 with the filing date of May 14, 2009 and the title of the invention being "Laminated Crystal Array for Photon Emission Detection". [0002] This application claims priority to US Patent Application Serial No. 12 / 465,672, filed May 14, 2009, which is hereby incorporated by reference in its entirety. technical field [0003] This invention relates generally to nuclear detection instrumentation and, in particular, to the use of stacked crystal arrays for intraoperative detection of gamma-ray or other X-ray emissions, or as an adjunct to positron emission tomography (PET). Background technique [0004] The course of cancer treatment is generally based on the natural history of tumor spread and, therefore, on the surgical and non-surgical options available to physicians. Surgical conditions generally refer to the preoperative, perioperative and postoperative physical appraisal and the...
