Abstract

The invention provides an AIS (automatic identification system) portable emergency position-indicating beacon longer in effective service time and an operating method thereof. The AIS portable emergency position-indicating beacon comprises a positioning device, an AIS receiving module, a microcontroller and an AIS transmitting module. The positioning device is used for acquiring current locational information. The AIS receiving module receives AIS information sent by AIS equipment around, processing the AIS information and transmitting the processed data to the microcontroller. The microcontroller is used for judging whether the data received by the AIS receiving module is effective; if yes, the AIS transmitting module sends out the locational information according to a first time interval; if not, the AIS transmitting module sends out the locational information according to a second time interval; the second time interval is longer than the first time interval; or the locational information is not sent out. The power consumption of the AIS receiving module is far lower than that of the AIS transmitting module; thus, the effective service time of the beacon is greatly prolonged.
