An overcurrent protection device and an overcurrent protection method for an electronic module are disclosed. In some embodiments, an overcurrent protection system for an electronic circuit may be implemented. The system may include a detection unit configured to detect an overcurrent condition associated with the electronic circuit and generate an overcurrent signal indicative of the overcurrent condition. The system may further comprise an energy consumption system in communication with the detection unit. The energy dissipating system may be configured to dissipate electrical energy to reduce current in a path associated with said electronic circuit when said overcurrent signal is received. The energy consuming system may be further configured to not consume current when the overcurrent signal ceases.
