Abstract

The present invention relates to methods and systems for secondary liquid injection control in engines. Methods and systems are provided for adjusting the amount of secondary fluid injected into an engine. In one example, the method includes adjusting an amount of secondary fluid injected at the engine cylinder based on an estimated secondary fluid injection amount from output of an exhaust gas oxygen sensor. For example, a first change in pump current of the exhaust gas oxygen sensor between a first reference voltage and a second reference voltage may be based on when only fuel is injected into the engine cylinder and when fuel and secondary fluid are injected into the engine cylinder. A second change in the pump current of the exhaust gas oxygen sensor between the first reference voltage and the second reference voltage estimates the secondary liquid injection amount.
