Embodiment 1

[0156] Embodiment 1-comparison

[0157] A standard diesel oxidation catalyst was prepared using a 12" x 6" cylindrical substrate with 400 pores per square inch and a 4 mil wall thickness. Substrate with 20g Pt / ft 3 of washcoat coatings. The catalyst volume was 11.1 liters.

Embodiment 2

[0159] Base metal catalysts were prepared using 2 x 10.5" x 4.5" cylindrical substrates with 300 pores per square inch and 5 mil wall thickness. Utilities have 0g Pt / ft 3 and a total washcoat loading of 3g / in 3 A washcoat-coated substrate. The washcoat contains tungsten oxide (WO 3 , 9-10% by weight) / vanadium on titanium dioxide (V 2 o 5 , 2.5% by weight). The catalyst volume was 12.77 liters.

[0160] The fuel combustion results are shown in Figure 7 and 8 and Table 1. Figure 7 A bar graph showing the results of fuel combustion experiments with the comparative catalyst of Example 1. Fuel injection under realistic conditions at different catalyst inlet temperatures and different exhaust mass flows. The fuel flow is adjusted in such a way that an outlet temperature of 450°C is achieved. The amount of under-oxidized fuel is measured downstream of the catalyst. exist Figure 12 , the first column for each space velocity corresponds to the temperature before the cat...

Abstract

Described are base metal catalysts that comprise a base metal material in an amount effective to generate an exotherm over a temperature range of 300 DEGC to 650 DEGC and to oxidize soot collected by a downstream particulate filter. The base metal catalysts are substantially free of platinum group metals. Emission treatment systems and methods of remediating nitrogen oxides (NOx), particulate matter, and gaseous hydrocarbons using base metal catalyst are also described.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to base metal catalysts, emission treatment systems and methods. More specifically, embodiments relate to catalysts, systems, and methods having a base metal catalyst upstream of a particulate filter and a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) catalyst. In systems where hydrocarbons (such as fuel) are periodically injected upstream of the base metal catalyst, the base metal catalyst generates an exotherm in the temperature range of 300°C to 650°C to regenerate the downstream particulate filter where the soot has collected. Background technique [0002] Diesel engine exhaust is a multiphase mixture that contains not only gaseous emissions such as carbon monoxide ("CO"), unburned hydrocarbons ("HC"), and nitrogen oxides ("NO x "), but also contain condensed phase materials (liquid and solid) that constitute so-called particles or particulate matter. Typically, a catalyst composition and a substrate on which it is disposed is ...
