Abstract

A composition comprising: a)nicotinamide riboside and b)a urolithin which is a compound of formula (I) or a salt thereof: Formula (I) wherein: A, B, C and D are each independently selected from H andOH; W, X and Y are each independently selected from H and OH; and Z is selected from H and OH. The compositions are useful as medicaments, for example for treating muscle-related pathological conditions, neurodegenerative diseases, and/or mitochondrial diseases and as dietary supplements, functional foods and beverages, and specialised nutrition or medical foods.

Description

[0001] The present invention relates to nutritional and medical formulations of urolithin and nicotinamide riboside, in particular urolithin A and nicotinamide riboside. The formulation is especially useful for simultaneously enhancing mitophagy and mitochondrial biogenesis to promote optimal mitochondrial function. Background technique [0002] Urolithins have been suggested as treatment agents for a variety of conditions associated with insufficient mitochondrial activity, including obesity, reduced metabolic rate, metabolic syndrome, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, hyperlipidemia, neurodegenerative diseases , cognitive impairment, mood disorders, stress and anxiety conditions; for weight management, or to enhance muscular or mental performance.
