Embodiment

[0057] Embodiments of the present invention are further illustrated with reference to the following non-limiting examples.

[0058] Synthesis of Aqueous Polymer Emulsion Terminated by Blocked Isocyanate

[0059] Polyols in the form of hydroxylated polybutadiene (Poly R-45HTLO) was combined with dimethylolpropionic acid (DMPA), triethylamine (NeT3) and isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI) in the following amounts:

[0062]

[0063] These materials were combined in a solvent (methyl ethyl ketone) at room temperature to form a dispersion such that the final solids content of the dispersion was 40%. The temperature of the dispersion was raised to 80°C and the dispersion was stirred for 2 hours. The temperature was maintained while an excess of cyclohexanone oxime (19.3 g) was added to ensure that most, if not all, of the terminal isocyanate groups were blocked. After adding the oxime, the emulsion is prepared by adding water to the solvent phase or...

Abstract

A modified polymer includes a diene-based polymeric chain and at least one end terminated with a blocked isocyanate group. The blocked isocyanate group may be the reaction product of an isocyanate anda blocking agent, and the blocking agent is selected such that the modified polymer deblocks at temperatures of at least 100 DEG C. An aqueous emulsion of the modified polymer may be provided that may be surfactant-free. The emulsion may be combined with one or more latexes to provide a treatment solution for a fabric or fiber that does not require the use of resorcinol and formaldehyde. Once treated and dried, the fabric or fiber may be used to impart tensile strength to rubber products, such as tires, air springs, flexible couplings, power transmission belts, conveyor belts, and fluid routing hoses.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims priority to U.S. Application Serial No. 15 / 054,431, filed February 26, 2016, entitled MODIFIED POLYMERS AND STABLEEMULSIONS COMPRISING THE SAME, the entire disclosure of which is incorporated herein by reference for all purposes. technical field [0003] The present invention relates to the treatment of textile or fiber products such as woven and nonwoven materials or cords embedded in elastomeric products. Background technique [0004] Elastomeric products such as power transmission belts, tires, couplings and hoses typically comprise fabric or cords embedded within one or more synthetic or natural elastomers. Fabrics and fibers may also be made from synthetic or natural materials and incorporated into elastomeric products to increase the elasticity and tensile strength of the elastomeric product. During use, elastomeric products such as power transmission belts and tires may be subjected to h...
