example

[0065] The following examples illustrate the disclosure and its ability to be used. The disclosure is capable of other and different embodiments, and its several details can be modified in various obvious respects, all without departing from the spirit and scope of the disclosure. Accordingly, the examples should be regarded as illustrative rather than restrictive in nature.

example 1

[0068] Example 1. Unnucleated Nylon-6,6 resin at about 36 RV.

[0069] An unnucleated nylon-6,6 resin was produced with 35.9 RV and 37 AEG as measured against the resin pellets. The nylon-6,6 resin is a polyamide containing: (i) at least 90% by weight of the condensation product of adipic acid and hexamethylenediamine; (ii) from about 3 to about 200 ppmw phosphorus (as an oxygen-containing phosphorus compound (iii) about 800 to about 3000 ppmw acetic acid end caps (ie, acetic acid incorporated into the polyamide as non-reactive chain ends); and standard additives (lubricant, etc.) other than nucleating additives.

[0070] The resin pellets had a melting point of about 264°C and were molded into standard 4.0 mm thickness ISO tensile bars having an RV of 35.2 with a molded RV loss or ΔRV of about 0.7. The tensile strength was measured to be 84 MPa, and the tensile stress at break was about 23%. The Charpy notched impact energy was measured to be about 4.4kJ / m 2 .

example 2

[0072] Example 2. Moderately Nucleated Nylon-6,6 Resin at about 35 RV.

[0073] Using resin pellets measuring 35.5 RV and 37 AEG produced a moderately nucleated nylon-6,6 resin. The nylon-6,6 resin of this example is a polyamide containing: (i) at least 90% by weight of the condensation product of adipic acid and hexamethylenediamine; (ii) from about 3 to about 200 ppmw phosphorus (as oxyphosphorus compound form); (iii) about 800 to about 3000 ppmw acetic acid end cap; and standard additives (lubricant, nucleating additive, etc.). The resin pellets had a melting point of about 264°C, and were molded into tensile bars with an RV of 35.0, with a molded RV loss or ΔRV of about 0.5. The tensile strength was measured to be 87 MPa and the tensile stress at break was about 20%. The Charpy notched impact energy was measured to be about 4.3kJ / m 2 .

Abstract

Resins for improved flow in injection molding, molded articles made from the same, and methods of using the same. A molded article formed from a polymer feed includes nylon-6,6. The molded article also includes a thin elongated profile including a thickness of up to 1.5 mm and a flow length of at least 25 cm. An absolute value of ARV of the molded article as compared to the polymer feed is from 0to 5, the RV determined according to ASTM D789.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims the benefit of priority to US Provisional Patent Application Serial No. 62 / 325605, filed April 21, 2016, the disclosure of which is incorporated herein by reference in its entirety. technical field [0003] The present disclosure relates to polymeric resins and molded articles formed therefrom. Background technique [0004] In polymer injection molding, especially for elongated articles with small cross-sections (such as cable ties) or thin-walled articles, the rheological properties of the polymer resin melt affect the speed and quality of mold filling. are all important. In order to properly fill elongated mold cavities of small cross-section at moderate injection pressures (eg, to avoid excessively high injection pressures), low melt viscosities and high filler flow rates are desired. [0005] Typical unreinforced lubricated nylon-6,6 resins supplied to the injection molding industry have ...
