The online image detecting device comprises an industrial camera, a fill-in light,an onboard antenna, an onboard display and an onboard processing host unit; the industrial camera is responsible for video image acquisition; and the fill-in light enhances pantograph area brightness;the onboard antenna realizes wireless communication; the display displays videos; and the onboard processing host unit comprises an image processing module, a data transmission module, a data storagemodule and a power control module. A method of the online image detecting device is further provided. The industrial camera captures video images and transmits the video images to the onboard processing host unit in real time; the format is converted through video encoding, so as to process videos by an online image detecting method for pantograph sliding plate wear; meanwhile, subtitles are superposed to display the operation state of the pantograph through the videos on the display; and the onboard antenna sends data and messages to a ground data processing center through the wireless communication.
