[0060] The present invention provides a system for determining adipose body tissue composition and lean body tissue composition of body tissue. The propagating ultrasound is provided into body tissue. A first set of normal reflections of the propagating wave is received at a first measurement site, and a second set of angled reflections of the propagating wave from body tissue is received at a second measurement site. The fatty body tissue depth and optionally the lean body tissue depth are obtained based on the times at which the first set of reflections and the second set of reflections were received. This device requires only two receivers in order to distinguish the depth of fat body tissue composition from lean body tissue composition. The propagation path is simplified by arranging the transceivers to direct the waves towards the tissue.
