Abstract

The invention provides a system (100) for managing a battery (300) and methods for making and using same. Battery data can be exchanged between the battery (300) and an onboard battery management system (BMS) (220) of a mobile platform (200) and between the battery (300) and a charger BMS (420) of a battery charger (400). The battery (300) can be managed based on the battery data. By situating theonboard BMS (220) on the mobile platform (200) and the charger BMS (420) on the battery charger (400), cost of the battery (300) can advantageously be reduced. The onboard BMS can process the batterydata aboard the mobile platform, so that uninterrupted communication between the onboard BMS and the mobile platform can be ensured. Safety and reliability of operating the mobile platform can be advantageously improved. The present systems and methods can be used for flying mobile platforms such as unmanned aerial vehicles.
