[0018] Embodiments of alloys, seal rings for sealing assemblies, and methods of making seal rings for sealing assemblies are described herein. In an embodiment, the alloy for the seal ring of the sealing assembly comprises between 6% and 9% by weight iron, between 1.5% and 3% by weight silicon, greater than 14% by weight chromium and at least 65% by weight of nickel. In an embodiment, the alloy comprises between 65% and 75% nickel by weight. In an embodiment, the alloy further comprises between 2% and 3% by weight boron. In other embodiments, the alloy further comprises between 2% and 3% by weight carbon. In embodiments, the alloy does not contain more than trace amounts of molybdenum, cobalt, manganese, or copper, or in other embodiments, any two of the foregoing, any three of the foregoing, or all of the foregoing.

Abstract

A seal ring for a seal assembly includes a body and a seal flange. The body is generally cylindrical and extends along a longitudinal axis between a load end and a seal end. The seal flange is disposed at the seal end of the cylindrical body. The seal flange circumscribes the body and projects radially from the body to a distal perimeter of the seal flange. The seal flange includes a sealing facewhich is annular and disposed adjacent the distal perimeter. The seal ring is made from an alloy that includes between 6 percent and 9 percent by weight of iron, between 1.5 percent and 3 percent by weight of silicon, greater than 14 percent by weight of chromium, and at least 65 percent by weight of nickel.
